We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Do you spend a lot of time out of your body?
What do I mean by that? Our consciousness, our point of presence, can move outside of our body.
When we daydream or analyze a problem, our consciousness can move out of our body and into the ether.
Out to a different time, the future or the past.
Out to a different place, an abstract plane of existence maybe or a just different place than the one we are physically located.
Your power lies in the embodiment of this bag of bones we call a body. So remember to inhabit your body.
It is easy to get caught up in life, with work, with family, and with our spiritual pursuits and neglect our physical shell.
We can get single minded and lose touch with our body’s needs.
Despite what some spiritual practices teach, we need our bodies to fully experience our lives, stay healthy, and to move in the direction of our dreams.
Life in the present condition is bring up another reason we leave the body, feeling our anxiety, confusion, and fear.
It is a form of shock, keeping the affects of the trauma hidden from the mental and emotional bodies. As the needs of the body get more urgent, we experience physical symptoms–strange pain, an old ailment acts up, burst of anger or rage, and so on.
For those of us who are challenged at this time inhabiting the body, I want to recommend taking any kind of body movement class; yoga, pilates, dance, or nia. I also recommend listening to a body scan meditation as you lie down to sleep.
