It is inauguration week and things are tense. We have been through so much the last four years, and the last year has been unreal. As empaths, many of us are feeling the collective energy and it is a lot. What we hope for is a collective healing.
Some of us heal for the collective, which requires that we process the emotional and psychic energy that is running through our part of the collective. I became aware that this was something I did early on in my work with my mentor. Many of my clients also provide this work to the world.
When we process our own pain and wounds, we are clearing or transmuting the emotions of those within our collective or soul pod. This takes a lot of our time and energy and can leave us feeling drained, confused, and at times defeated. Especially during times like this, this endless year of isolation and lockdown.
I wanted to help put context and big-picture themes together so we can better understand what is happening in the world right now. The nature of the work we are unconsciously or consciously providing the collective. And then offer some suggested tools to help you stay healthy.
Locating Ourselves within History
Since so much of what is happening this year feels like chaos, I thought we would start with locating ourselves in the story.
- Nature Seeks Her Balance
What humans neglect, nature corrects. This is a corrective time where the Universe is seeking to rebalance all of her systems. We have been getting further and further out of balance with nature and ourselves. This means that sooner or later there is a correction. Currently, several systems are correcting at once, more on what they are in a moment.
- Cycles and Growth
We are working on the same energetic themes all the time. Primarily, the distribution of power throughout each system. Humans are out of integrity with our power structures. The center can no longer hold, so it is collapsing. These cycles seek corrections periodically, in approximately 100 year increments, give or take a decade or two.
- The Universal Healing Spiral
We are in fact making improvements through each cycle. Equity improves each time we dive into the chaos of healing. We move through a spiral in a forward motion and when we come back around to the same wound, i.e. racism, we are addressing it from a higher vibration or a more healed perspective.
Remember that Earth cycles are a long game. We humans have only been here for a blip in her time. However, in our perspective, these cycles entering a stage of rebalancing feels very ungrounding, chaotic, and unnerving.
It can help to remember there is some order in the upheaval, even if we can’t see where all this is going to land for us on a personal level.
Our Energetic Power Model
We are healing our relationship with power. The areas that are rebalancing all relate to how humans wield and harness power. For millennia, humans have been operating from the third chakra or solar plexus in an unhealed energy of power-over. The Win/Lose, conquer, colonize, suppress, oppress energy signature.
If you look through the centuries, you can see that those of us lucky enough to be born in affluent countries have less war and conquering happening to us, since WWII ended. However, we have infused our capitalist models with a working class and a ruling class. So it is still showing up in a power over, win/lose structure.
The Potential Energetic Reallocation
The opportunity we have before us is to shift the energetic power balance towards collaboration and empowerment. This happens as we heal the wounded solar plexus chakra of the collective by balancing those systems that are out of integrity. So what systems are we talking about here?
Power Themes at Play
- Earth Crisis
Viruses are nature’s way of fighting back against overpopulation and abuse of resources. While we tackle getting COVID-19 under control, we have taken our attention off of the global climate crisis. These two things are deeply related to each other and while the global shutdown gave Earth a much needed pause in pollution, this is still needing to be addressed at all levels from the personal to the corporate to the governmental, globally.
On a global level, far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism is taking root. Characterized by dictatorial power and forcible suppression of opposition through policy changes and blatant disregard for law. This is happening in the US as well as places like Great Britain, Greece, and France.
The wealthy elite owning and controlling the US government and the US economy. Since the pandemic began, roughly 45% of the work force has lost a job and health insurance while billionaires have increased their wealth by $845 billion during the first 6 months. The government in the form of bailouts chose to help corporation over its citizens.
Misogyny and the abuse and scapegoating of women in society. There are big shake ups in America happening as result of this correction in power. Men have gone to jail and women have picked up a mantle ready to forge ahead and call for justice again and again.
The ownership and subjugation of Blacks in America for 400 years. This murder of George Floyd by police awakened a movement that historians call the largest movement in US history, calling for the end of systemic racism in the police/justice system and unchecked police brutality directed at the Black community, in particular and including Indigenous people and People of Color.
Each of these power themes involve government systems, corporate systems, and social systems that support the current toxic power structure. And those very systems are what we have been feeling collapse under the weight of its own dysfunction.
Empaths are consciously and unconsciously processing the emotional upheaval from all of these systemic collapses. We are processing grief, rage, disillusionment, confusion, and hope. It is more important than ever to remain conscious of the collective and how we are participating with it. Remember not everything we are feeling belongs to us, try to keep this in mind. And you aren’t lazy for needing much more time to recover from your efforts.
How to Care for Yourself at this Time

- Get extra rest-–everything is tense and chaotic right now so be gentle with yourself.
- Be careful of burnout and news overload-–it can change your very nature before you recognize there is a problem.
- Remember that we are in the middle of a traumatic experience so it is important to pay attention to your own wounds and get help when needed to keep yourself in a healthy place-–knowing we won’t be able to really treat this trauma until it is over.
- Keep up with your connections especially your empath friends. It is very helpful to support each other through our experience right now.
- Allow yourself to feel your feelings occasionally, cry, scream, punch a pillow. It is important to release the energy periodically or you may have a bigger breakdown than you can handle.
There really is a lot going on and for a while to come. Our wellbeing depends on how we manage our energy. Because there are so many different deeply emotional aspects to this year, you may find that your old wounds are being activated. Reach out for energy work when you need it.
