“The healing process is best described as a spiral. Survivors go through the stages once, sometimes many times; sometimes in one order, sometimes in another. Each time they hit a stage again, they move up the spiral: they can integrate new information and a broader range of feelings, utilize more resources, take better care of themselves, and make deeper changes.” ~ Laura Davis
We are all survivors of something.
As such we seek out healing, either through reflection, meditation, counseling or healing work.
We have diligently dissected the cause and each of the effects.
As we gain enlightenment, we can move forward again free of that particular issue.
Then, without warning, we come face to face with this wound all over again, often years later.
Of course, our first reaction might be to feel betrayed by ourselves, “I thought I fixed this! Why is this coming back up again? I feel like I will never be rid of this.”
Healing happens in a spiral when we are ready to heal something at a deeper level than we could access before, the issue will be presented to us again.
Know that if something has gotten our attention, it is because we are ready to heal it on the next level.
We have grown enough to align with a deeper truth about our issue.
So, if you can, the next time that obnoxiously persistent issue pops up again, don’t resist the experience, remind yourself that you are ready to move forward and embrace the opportunity to grow.
