Mindful Monday 2/13/17

Our focus matters. What we choose to look at and make important in our day to day living sets the tone for our emotional body, for our neurological wiring. We each have a set point, so to speak, for how we view the world. Some of us are sunny people that always have a smile and good cheer. Some people are melancholy and serious. And of course, we all know someone who thrives on conflict and anger. Our emotional inclinations can feel strong and difficult to fight against. Joy is a choice we can always make. For those of us conditioned for something else, it can feel hard, if not impossible, to make that choice at first. So we, what? Fake it till you make it. And perhaps faking joy is too big a stretch, so you start by focusing on something good, or even something neutral and deciding not to feel sad or angry for a few minutes or an hour. And then another hour. Joy is a choice and it begins with our focus, not with our experiences.
